John Luther (excellently played by Idris Elba who some might know for his role in the Thor movies from the Marvel Universe) is a motivated, keen, genius and passionate detective. His mind and passion make him pass as a violent nutshell. Noble at reason, with justice flowing through his veins, his mind is so powerful that it explodes at times in violent outburst which more than once caused him problems in both his personal and professional life. What makes him brilliant at his work but also puts him at risk are his fixations with a case or a murder. He doesn’t let himself be involved and consumed by the atrocities of his cases and he doesn’t find peace until he cracks the culprit and sends them behind bars.
And just to play with his sanity more, his first criminal in the series manages to outsmart him with a cunning smile on her lips and a sharp mind hidden under her long eyelashes.
Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson), a multiple murderess manages to evade Luther’s proves, even if she will serenely admit her crimes in front of him.
The unhealthiest relationship based on morality, intellectual and sexuality establishes between the two for the rest of the episodes. Obsessed with his failure at prove her guilt, he will soon transform her into his confident, by helping him get amazing insight into the mind and motivations of the suspects.
A real piece of art when it comes to TV shows, Luther is creative, dark, dangerous and addictive.
